USA Cell Manufacturing Plant Announced

Meyer Burger has announced the acquisition of a Colorado Springs, CO facility to manufacture an initial 2 GW of solar cells. These “Made in USA” solar cells are exclusively manufactured for the Meyer Burger Goodyear, AZ, solar module manufacturing plant. Solar cell production is slated to begin in Q4 of 2024 and will bring 350 local manufacturing jobs to Colorado Springs. 2 GW of cell production at over 8 watts per cell equates to about 250 million cells annually.

The Importance of USA Manufacturing and the IRA

The solar PV market in North America is growing. With the help of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), a growing a robust U.S. solar manufacturing footprint will play a significant role in the renewable energy economy. Through the IRA, Meyer Burger will use the Advanced Manufacturing Tax Credit 45x to receive tax credits valued at $1.4 billion between the start of production in 2024 to the end of 2032. Although many countries have incentives to bring manufacturing nationally, the IRA specifically incentivized renewable technology production.

Meyer Burger Technology AG

Per Meyer Burger, they are leading photovoltaics into a new era worldwide. And when you look at their solar technology’s influence on solar panel manufacturing, you can believe it! What’s most exciting is that they are turning production plans in-house so that they can play a direct role in generating high-quality solar modules. With German panel and cell manufacturing already established for the European market, the Colorado and Arizona manufacturing plants will produce cell and panels (respectively) for the North and South American markets. With over 50 years of experience, the residents of North America can expect nothing less than superior quality and performance.

Meyer Burger Solar Panels Where Quality Meets Durability

Meyer burger embodies the term “the machine that makes the machine”.  Long before Meyer Burger made cells and modules, they made the tools for others to make cells and modules. All the top manufacturers in the world have relied on Meyer Burger’s expertise over the past 20 years.  Meyer Burger’s patented heterojunction technology (HJT) proven in REC Alpha modules since 2019 and now directly used in Meyer Burger modules, a new bar exists for premium solar panels. From the three options to choose from, Black, White, and Glass, you can expect high efficiency and up to 20% more yield in production out of the same roof space. Plus, for the cloudy Washington environment, the HJT technology absorbs solar energy from a broader spectrum that is present on overcast days. The Black and White modules have a 25-year warranty, and the Glass module has an industry-leading 30-year warranty.
