Don't Let Congress Kill Solar

Congress just passed a budget bill that could kill the 25D Residential Solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC)—the federal tax incentive that has helped millions of families afford rooftop solar and battery backup systems. Now it’s heading to the Senate, and the future of solar in Washington hangs in the balance.

Join NWES in Defending Solar Access and Affordability

At Northwest Electric and Solar (NWES), we’ve seen firsthand how the 25D tax credit empowers Washington homeowners to reduce utility bills, increase energy independence, and build a more resilient energy future. Ending this credit would raise costs, stall local job growth, and make us more reliant on a fragile, centralized grid.

That’s why we’re standing with WASEIA and industry allies to protect this vital incentive. But we need your help—before it’s too late.

The Solar Tax Credit Is On the Chopping Block

The House of Representatives has already passed a budget reconciliation bill that would terminate the 25D tax credit after 2025, eliminating nearly a decade of promised solar incentives.

This would be a devastating blow to homeowners, installers, and local clean energy economies—just as Washingtonians are turning to solar to:

  • Lower energy bills
  • Increase grid reliability
  • Achieve state climate goals

WASEIA has mobilized outreach in key Republican districts in Washington. But with the bill now heading to the Senate—and potentially back to the House for negotiations—every voice counts.

Step 1: Contact Your WA House Representatives

If you live or do business in Rep. Dan Newhouse’s or Rep. Michael Baumgartner’s districts, your outreach is critical. These representatives can help determine whether 25D survives the budget process.

My name is [Your Name], and I live in [City/Community/ZIP] or work with [Company/Organization Name]. I’m writing to urge you to protect the 25D Residential Solar Investment Tax Credit as the budget reconciliation bill moves through the Senate and back to the House.

This tax credit is a key driver of affordable, reliable, and local clean energy in Washington and across the country. Removing it would:

  • Increase energy costs for homeowners and businesses
  • Slow down solar adoption and energy independence
  • Undermine grid resilience just as outages and rate hikes are becoming more common
  • Threaten local jobs and small businesses in our state’s clean energy economy

Solar isn’t just an energy choice—it’s a cost-saving, job-creating solution that empowers people and strengthens our communities.

Please support continued access to affordable residential solar by preserving the 25D tax credit in the reconciliation process.

Thank you for your leadership and consideration.

Step 2: Call Key Senators in Other States

While our Washington Senators support solar, we need your help reaching out-of-state friends, family, suppliers, and partners. Encourage them to call their Senators and urge them to protect the 25D credit. Every phone call helps shift the national conversation.
